The First Day of Spring Marks New Beginnings for Science Center
Port Discover Opens Doors on Larger Space, Saturday, March 20
Elizabeth City, NC—Port Discover will open the doors to its expanded science center on Saturday, March 20, the first day of spring. In preparation for the move next door, Port Discover closed its current facility after business, Thursday, February 25.
Port Discover will open at 10:00 a.m. on March 20. A day full of programs is planned:
- Project Grow, the community garden organization, will be on hand to answer questions and provide tips on starting a spring garden.
- Professor Billy Younger from the College of the Albemarle will discuss the vernal equinox, the first day of spring, and what is significant about seasonal changes.
- Dr. Maille Lyons, science advisor for Port Discover, will lead a program on testing and analyzing water samples, as part of Port Discover’s Plankton Watch, made possible thanks to a grant from Dominion Educational Foundation
- Smokey the Bear will make a visit, on behalf of the NC Forest Service.
